Commitment to the Sustainable Dairy Partnership and Dairy Sustainability Framework

At Prolacto – Lacticínios de S. Miguel, S.A., we recognize the importance of sustainability in the dairy industry and our responsibility to uphold the highest environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.
We have consistently demonstrated this commitment over the years through certifications such as ISO 9001 (Integrated Quality Management System), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety), FSSC 22000 (Food Safety), as well as SEDEX (SMETA Audit) and Ecovadis (Silver Level).
Aligned with our corporate values and strategic objectives, we formally commit to meeting the 4 Minimum Requirements of the Sustainable Dairy Partnership (SDP) and fully supporting the 11 Criteria of the Dairy Sustainability Framework (DSF).

We pledge to uphold these principles as part of our operations and to continuously improve our sustainability performance. This commitment includes:

1. Meeting the 4 Minimum Requirements of the SDP:
   • Implementing a robust sustainability management system.
   • Conducting materiality assessments to identify key sustainability priorities.

2. Supporting and Implementing the 11 Criteria of the DSF:

4 Minimum Requirements of the SDP:
1. Compliance with Local Legislation – Farms must comply with all applicable laws related to the 11 criteria of the Dairy Sustainability Framework (DSF).
2. Animal Welfare – The SDP recognizes the Five Freedoms of animal welfare, prohibits tail docking, and requires the use of anesthesia or analgesics for dehorning adult animals.
3. Human Rights – Farms must respect human rights, ensuring fair and safe working conditions for all employees.
4. High Conservation Value (HCV) and Deforestation Protection – Farms must protect areas with high conservation value and avoid deforestation practices in their operations.

11 DSF Criteria:
1. Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Reduce GHG emissions across the dairy value chain.
2. Soil Nutrients: Manage nutrients to minimize environmental impact.
3. Soil Quality and Retention: Enhance soil health and prevent erosion.
4. Water Availability and Quality: Optimize water use and safeguard water quality.
5. Biodiversity: Protect and enhance biodiversity on farms and in supply chains.
6. Animal Care: Ensure the health and well-being of dairy animals.
7. Product Safety and Quality: Deliver safe, high-quality dairy products.
8. Market Development: Promote sustainable dairy markets and livelihoods.
9. Rural Economies: Support the sustainability of rural communities.
10. Waste: Reduce waste and improve waste management.
11. Working Conditions: Provide safe and fair working environments.
